Defining and Assigning Search Marketing Roles within Your Company

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a very important aspect of internet marketing as most people begin their search for products and services online and the majority of purchases are made online as well.  Getting your website near the top of the rankings in the search engine results pages (SERPs) for your main keywords is crucial to attracting more traffic and potential sales leads.  In fact, statistics from Chitika show that 92 percent of the traffic in a given search goes to the top listing on the page.  As more companies realize the importance of attracting a targeted audience through good SEO marketing, many are assigning SEO marketing roles to their employees in-house to try to achieve these goals.

When deciding to assign SEO marketing roles within your company, the following roles are essential:
  • Content Writing: All SEO marketing campaigns should be centered on the generation and promotion of new and engaging content that your audience or customer base will find useful.  There are several mediums through which you can create and promote new content such as your website, blog, social media profiles, and others.  When assigning the content writing role, make sure your content writer has some understanding of how to apply SEO principles such as keywords and formatting.
  • Social Media Managers: Social media has become a major component of SEO marketing because your social media profiles allow your audience to engage directly with your company.  Your social media profiles can be used to promote new content, deals or giveaways, and products and services. Your social media manager should stay active on your company’s profiles and come up with creative ways to interact with your audience.
  • Web Designers and Developers: Web design is closely associated with SEO as websites with more SEO friendly elements rank higher in the search engines.  Your in-house web developer should have an understanding of how to build an SEO friendly web design that is also responsive to display properly on mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones.  Building a mobile friendly website is very important for achieving better rankings in the SERPs and capturing mobile search traffic which accounts for the largest percentage of internet searches.
